That’s right. His and Hers mixes! They’re almost the exact same, but my doesn’t have peanut butter chips but instead has butterscotch ones. I also made these in gallon-sized ziploc bags so that it’d last. We’re only going to be camping for three days, but what we don’t eat this weekend, we’ll save for the second camping trip at the end of this month!
Just a disclaimer: this recipe is plain and simple and overloaded with chocolate because I can. We typically don’t eat like this, but it’s a vacation weekend so you know what? We’re gonna eat what we want. If you don’t like something that I add, or want something in place of it, add it in and change it up! Trail mix has to be one of the easiest snack recipes to customize.
For this I used:
- 2 boxes Chex mix (grabbed the great value kind to save a bit of money)
- 16 oz jar of dry roasted peanuts
- 12 oz box raisins
- 1 bag milk chocolate chips
- 1 bag reese’s peanut butter chips
- 1 bag white chocolate chips
- 1 bag butterscotch chips
I wound up not using the full bags of any of the candy, but I came close. Add the amount that you desire! Truthfully, it was a lot of chocolate, so as we eat it down, I’ll add more plain cereal in the mix to break up the sweets.
The easiest way to get it all mixed the way I wanted was to layer in the items, and fill the bag half way. Zip it closed with air in it and shake like crazy. Repeat till it’s almost full. By that point, there won’t be a whole lot of room to shake and mix, so don’t be afraid to reach in and stir with a clean hand.
His: layer everything in (no butterscotch, but LOTS of peanut butter chips). For each bag, I used a full box of cereal.
Hers: layer everything in (no pb, but butterscotch instead).
Can’t wait to dig in and give it a try!
